Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
Even my cold, blackened Philadelphia heart can tip the ol’ cap to the Brewers for the club’s very first World Series win. Who says a small-market team can’t win the whole shebang? Incidentally, Miller Lite is celebrating, too. Meet theClinch Cans.
Thanks to eagle-eyed Side Salad reader Steve Perry (and very obviously, the former lead singer of Journey) for bringing this OTHER moka pot-inspired bottle to my attention!
Instagram’s Adam Mosseri says that our collective feelings about AI amount to a “fear of being left behind,” which sounds exactly like the narcissistic “they’re just jealous” label someone issues whenever they’re criticized.
Also, how does everyone feel about longer-form videos popping up on Instagram?
If the Wendy’s Final Fantasy-esque RPG game, WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones, is anything like Shining Force, it could potentially force me to update my unofficial QSR rankings (Wendy’s = barely there). Anywho, you get to do battle with baddies like the “Big Mech” and “Mech Chicken” (get it?) and it appears to stay true to the classic RPG playbook.
First, the CPG Gods fixed cereal packaging, and within the same week, they did bacon, too?
Just gonna’ go throw it back to this oldie but goodie where I wrote about some of the best packaging featured in horror movies, which was really just an excuse to talk about The Stuff, a solid 8/10 on the ol’ B-movie excellence scale. That said, I wrote this seven years ago, and it feels a skosh outdated and deserves an update (especially after The Substance).
Speaking of The Wire, I love this title, and, yes, the current iteration of the internet should die. Every iota of it has been completely enshittified, and I can’t imagine everyone wanting to live in a constant state of agitation, weaponized bots, and AI slop. I don’t know what takes its place, but I’d love to see it! Now I would like to read John West’s The Internet Will Die, and So Will You: On Learning to Live in Our Digital Age: “West confirms what many have suspected for a good while now: The platforms once seen as enduring archives of knowledge and communication are being cannibalized by ideological warfare and basic greed.” Big Yup energy from me.
Does she cook beans? Does she cook rice? Does she do ritual sacrifice?
