Side Salad: The World Cup, As Brought To You By Dasani
June 5, 2026
Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
RIP Marjane Satrapi. Persepolis remains one of the very, very best graphic novels ever made.
I don’t think Land should design every beer can (or, in this case, an NA beer can), but I’m not entirely opposed to it either.
Ponyo wants ham (but in a cookbook).
The Spurs nuns > Timothy Chalamet and Ben Stiller.
Psssst. Mattel is looking for a senior packaging designer.
Stumbled across the Hamptons Edition of Feed Me (which had a real gem of a quote on $150 sweatshirts), but I love the packaging for Jon & Vinny’s Pancake Mix. Incidentally, I still think about the hamachi collar from their now dearly departed LA restaurant, Son of a Gun.
Get ready to see Epigrama’s reuse symbol more.
Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired (CABVI) and West Side Brewing have once again teamed up for Braille Ale, a raspberry gose brewed to raise awareness. Incidentally, West Side Brewing is one of the first breweries in the US to use braille on its beer cans. On that note, would it really be that monumental a lift to have Braille on all beer cans?
Going to a World Cup match this summer? Don’t forget to forget your water bottle.
The only way I would ever drink a Zero Sugar Dubai Chocolate Pepsi is if they convinced Netflix to revive The OA.
Taking my kids to see Backrooms this weekend, and then giving them copies of The Haunted Woman and House of Leaves.
That’s that. Have a weekend, y’all.
-Bill
