Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
The other day, my mind was blown when I learned that Fred Baur, the inventor of the Pringles can, requested that, in death, his cremains be placed inside his greatest invention. Apparently, it was also buried next to an urn full of his ashes, and now I know the human body cannot be fully contained in a tube of Salt & Vinegar Pringles. So congrats to BBDO New York for coming up with one of the best campaigns I’ve ever seen: a one-of-one fancy Pringles urn so one lucky winner can also have their ashes stuffed inside. They also brought along a MORTUARY INFLUENCER, a real thing in the year of 2026, to bring the campaign to life, er, death. Whatever. No notes, only tears.
Patagonia opened its resale platform almost ten years ago, but now you can buy old and new side by side on their website. Resale and thrift are having a moment (it’s called an affordability crisis).
If you ever wanted to know what’s on the other side of an emoji, according to Google at least, it’s very much a butt. This is disturbing. I have questions!
Dude, I don’t want a bag o’ soup. I want a can o’ soup.
Couple’s costume idea.
404 Media says Character.AI’s bankruptcy could be the first real domino to fall in the AI bubble burst many are predicting. Boy howdy, they were spending an awful lot on compute!
Ridiculous press release quote of the day: “Listen, I’m not someone who settles for basic, so why would I do it with my toilet paper?” said Porsha Williams. “When I tried Charmin Ultra Strong with Wider Sheets, I was mad nobody told me sooner. More coverage, a better clean, AND using less? That’s the kind of upgrade I can get behind. And honestly? Your backside will thank you.”
Charlotte’s back with another Tour de type. Ribbon type!
As of this writing, the Phillies are expected to bring back Don Mattingly as manager, and shitcanning Kevin Long and Bobby Dickerson. As it stands, I want it on the record that this team won’t win more than 80 games, although it’s fair to say that who knows if they even play next year, given the looming lockout. Anywho, go Brewers, I guess.
This dude should hook up with Sir-Mix-a-Lot.
