Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
Good morning! Just wanted to let you know that Anthropic researchers believe there’s more than a 10% chance that AI will kill us all in the next decade, with one of their science leads saying, “We do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.” They also think “Anthropic is trying its best,” which doesn’t inspire confidence at all. Anywho, have a great day!
PS - FWIW, folks choose how to build these models. And I’m of the belief that many of them are uniquely awful people.
PPS - I could say the same thing about packaging, menswear guy.
Amazon remains the worst place to work and allegedly won’t make basic accommodations for pregnant employees.
Actually, the 7UP 12-pack boxes look tight.
I love everything about the can for Tutto Passa’s Bicycle Thief, even though I absolutely don’t see the connection to the movie, which I also love.
A federal judge upheld Oregon’s EPR law. Take that, National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, streaming is out of control, and prices have risen “three times as fast as inflation.” If you want all eight major streamers—without ads—it will set you back $151 per month. Remember when we complained about cable companies? Neither do I.
Comic Relief teamed with Quality Meats to create a fictional non-profit dubbed “Not Our Problem“ to get more folks involved in tackling childhood poverty. They also released a series of sarcastic outdoor and print ads that give voice to the problem, but satirize the same people who don’t want any part of being involved with any of that. Part of me wants to say that the campaign serves as a pretty comical indictment of the status quo around poverty, food insecurity, and homelessness, but it’s also a stark reminder of how most Americans operate in this world. So, maybe it’s actually not so good and is just depressing? I suppose the proof is in the volunteer numbers.
Can I get a hell yeah for the Le Creuset Star Trek collection?
Dear students! Today is the last day you can submit your project for Student Week. Stop procrastinating! And for the love of Pete, please put “Student Week” in the subject line of your email.
Welcome to the jungle, baby, you’re gonna live.
