Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
Listen: I don’t care much for Mark Zuckerberg and his overall lack of remorse over social media addiction (a Senate committee apology doesn’t count) or the genuinely toxic products he has “shipped” out into the world. That said, the two most relatable things I have ever seen come from his corner of a very insular, strange world that is completely unlike our everyday reality are: 1. Zuck awkwardly smoking meats alongside co-pilot Sweet Baby Rays and 2. taking a sip from a beer he clearly didn’t enjoy while listening to one of his employees blather on about how he sources his “obscure Ts.”
Easily one of my favorite pieces of packaging this year, and it’s genuinely shocking to me that no one had thought to make an RTD in a glass vessel that you can reuse like any other fancy-leaning cup for your cocktail of choice. And...if this did exist before Kocktail, shame on me.
Looks like that Art of Play x Kelly Clarkson story isn’t going to die, but now it appears that “people are getting threatened,” and this is why you shouldn’t punch down. If you have 8 million followers, you are not a normal human citizen doing Yelp. Anyway, that escalated in a definitely not great way!
Chipotle now offers family meals, and to promote them, they introduced a very, very, very big bag that will hold at least 200 burritos. That number is not confirmed, but I once won a jelly bean counting contest in 4th grade, so my burrito-to-bag-volume-eyeballs are unimpeachable.
Yup, boss, here’s that Lugz x Modelo collab you’ve been talking up.
The women-in-gyms discourse comedian Shane Gillis rolled out on SNL is incredibly dumb and deeply misogynistic, but chef’s kiss on the timing of announcing your partnership with Megan Thee Stallion, Gym Shark.
Sandwich of the day: Hummus, feta, regular ol’ potato chips, and romaine on toasted sourdough. Feel free to tell me how to “plus this one up.”
I have tried in my way to be free.
-Bill
