Side Salad: In Space, No One Can Hear You Spooge
July 8, 2026
Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
Apparently, golfers need energy drinks, too!
Krispy Kreme unveiled its LTO collab with the Girl Scouts, featuring three takes on some of their most beloved cookie flavors.
Billionaires shouldn’t be allowed to be billionaires—or trillionaires, for that matter. Nor should they create clunky-ass mash-ups of their brands with a logo that resembles what can only be described as space spooge. One of my favorite reading memories is reading Sandra Boynton’s Blue Hat, Green Hat to my oldest and listening to them laugh maniacally at the turkey who just can’t get wearing literally anything right. RIP to George E. Johnson, the founder of Johnson Products Company, which was behind haircare products like Afro Sheen and Ultra Wave. Give yourself a few minutes for a Google Image deep dive and check out Afro Sheen’s packaging and print ads from the 70s. Great stuff.
Man, I have no idea what any of this is, other than, uh, towels and socks...but the colors and layout are fantastic.
Pringles Hot Dog Buns exist (and boy, do they look overpackaged).
That’s all for now.
