Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
Free idea: Halloween is the deadliest night of the year for child pedestrians, which is exactly why more neighborhoods should shut down high-traffic candy areas completely to all automobiles. Get some traffic cops and some orange cones and let the kids run wild. And, if a candy brand like Hershey’s somehow got involved in making neighborhoods safer to Trick or Treat in, we might be talking less about rising chocolate costs (thanks, tariffs!), just saying.
Oooh! Stumbled upon this today in case you would like to draw some little “weirdos.”
So long, maxxing! You had a good run. I look forward to un-optimizing our lives and maybe never hearing the word “macros” ever again.
Hard agree with everything Madison Utendahl said here about the Gap comeback.
Absolute shame, because I would love to see Wildwood. Who doesn’t love stop-motion animation, aside from, you know, Sam Altman?
Black Poetry’s sparkling coffee is where the classics meet-cute with graffiti. It’s probably not for me, but I’m into the vandalism concept, and this doesn’t really look like any other beverage I can recall. Plus, they have a zine! What’s not to love?
The internet was once a weirdly wild place, and the folks who became the stuff of meme legends have banded together to promote Firefox with an anti-AI, anti-tracking plea. Sold!
Can’t believe I’m going to say this…but I think I’m actually team Biberty now? Who knew a protest against a fuzzy brand mascot with no known appendages would rankle me in this way.
Hang on to your dreams til’ someone beats them out of you.
-Bill
