Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
Turner Duckworth refreshed Yorkshire Tea, and they even got a bespoke typeface (Proper Sans) courtesy of Rob Clarke.
Massachusetts is down bad, as Kayem just recalled 1.5 MILLION pounds of meat products due to temperature abuse during storage.
Idles knows ball (also look at that pack of screws, my dudes).
As much as I bitch about streaming, there are legitimately good services like Criterion and Mubi (y’all know they got Camp Miasma right now, yea?) that go far beyond delivering algorithmic content. I think you can count Eternal Family among those highly curated godsends, too. They stream some of the most oddball and visually spectacular films from around the globe, and kudos to It’s Nice That for compiling some of the best posters from movies currently on the site. Also, holy shit, that Drowning by Numbers poster! Wow.
Timothy Goodman and Jessica Hische spoke to Charlotte about adding Generative AI clauses to their contracts. Don’t let the bastards get you down, or in this case, steal your hard-earned style.
Kylie Jenner wore a diamond-encrusted $50 million bra at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and 8% of the country doesn’t have health insurance. That feels like a non-sequitur, and it’s absolutely not.
I’m not dropping $315 bones on a 7-Eleven mahjong set, but this is purdy.
I quickly gobbled up Vincenzo Latronico’s novella Perfection over the weekend, and I can’t tell if I hate it, it’s genius, or perhaps some combination of both, as I simultaneously feel seen and disgusted! I’m not sure I can muster up a nuanced take here. When your own life very much revolves around engaging with the aesthetics of packaging and design while you simply must be very online, it’s a very unnerving read, particularly as the perma-lancing couple ( two “creatives” living in Berlin during the 2010s) push 40 and begin to feel the disillusionment over the lives they’ve painstakingly curated. Fun times!
-Bill
