Good morning from Dieline’s editor-in-chief, Bill McCool. Here’s your daily side serving of design news, short musings, brand stuff, and forgotten ephemera.
I am just a simple editor for a humble packaging website. What could I possibly know about selling merch for one of the greatest living recording artists of our time? Nah, I’m just joshin’ you. Beyoncé has a lot of nerve selling an empty wooden crate for $1,000 so you can store your VINYLS. Rich people are fucking insane. Incidentally, I hate that the youngsters call them vinyls.
If you’re worried that your very human writing resembles that of AI, here are a few tools you can utilize. I have said it before, but having to reduce my em dash usage has been a genuine joy killer—really.
Get your Nan Goldin and Ed van der Elsken with the New York Times 25 photos that changed fashion forever.
Quarter Proof rebranded to Demi, with a complete packaging overhaul from Day Job. It definitely looks more like a spirits brand, but I did like the previous packaging from Regular Practice. That said, all the douche bells go off whenever I read things like “Demi isn’t a low-ABV alternative. It isn’t a wellness product. It’s a premium spirits brand.” Like, no, dude, that’s exactly what it is. You’re 25% vodka. Get real. No amount of branding or copy will change that.
Kinda stink that we haven’t had a narrative feature from Spike Jonze since Her, and instead, we’re getting De’Longhi commercials with Brad Pitt.
Liquid Death’s creative team, Death Machine, did the branding for the canned sparkling wine brand Mr. Fancy. I like the tie!
Love love love Danna Gutiérrez’s ceramic pots.
Don’t say things like happy hump day, please and thank you.
-Bill
